As I reminded the kids today - I'll bring 50% of the awesome this summer - I'll bring the projects, crafts, experiments, toys, games, teambuilding, reading and fun - but they have to be ready to bring the other 50% in terms of their behavior. We're going to strive to be kind, responsible, safe and respectful while we're at camp by keeping our bodies and voices in control.
Book check-out should start either tomorrow or Wednesday. I had the kids help me sorting books this morning, but I couldn't stay after today to work on it, so I'll probably go in tomorrow. My kids are going to be checking out books on Mondays - especially getting new picture books (for fluency) and nonfiction books. They can switch chapter books as they finish, or if they aren't there for Monday, we'll arrange for a time for them to check books out. They are welcome to bring in their own books as long as they have their name on them. Each kid has a book box for their books in our classroom.
SPEAKING OF BOOKS -- tomorrow (Tuesday) we are taking a mini field trip to the Blair Library to sign the kids up for the Summer Reading Program. They get to track their reading and enter into drawings for prizes for each hour they read. More information will come home about this when I know more about it, but I hope you take the opportunity to check out the library a few times this summer. It's really a wonderful place!
